As many as 632 companies with a market of more than 1000 crores have announced their results; this number includes the 35 banking companies that have given out results too. The companies that have improved profits are almost twice the number of companies whose profits took a hit (417 Vs 215). The increase in profits stood at 13.25%, which indicates a sturdy overall corporate performance.

Ratio between good and poor performing companies gets better once we go beyond the 0-1000 Cr bucket. Therefore, it is always a safer bet to invest in companies with a market cap above 1000 crores. If the banking companies are excluded, the percentage of loss in profits falls by nearly 20%, from -35.48% to -15.69%. Even though the performance of the banking sector is not too promising, other sectors seem to compensate for this with their improved results.
